CURTAIN RAISER - Based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, this epic sci-fi flick is the 1st of the 2- part adaptation of the novel as also the 2nd film adaptation of the novel after David Lynch's film, Dune (1984). With its script set in the future, the screenplay is about the battle between the natives and enemy invaders to take over the mining operation of Melange, a drug (called Spice), a substance that permits safe, instantaneous, interstellar travel!

SYNOPSIS - The film talks about the mythic and emotional journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a brilliant and gifted young man who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the Universe, Arrakis, to ensure the future of his family and his people given the fact that the drug extends human life, provides superhuman levels of thought, and makes faster-than-light travel practical! 

The visual and special effects teams were inspired by the movement of cascading waves on the ocean to indicate the movement of the sandworms and built an underground vibration system to help create the effect in the sand!

Hans Zimmer, the music composer, created wind instruments and used filtered guitar/cello tracks and also manipulated human voices to bring up unfamiliar sounds!

The film premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2021!
