Story :
Pagalavan (Simha), Kesavan (Ashok Selvan)
and Sekhar (RJ Ramesh Thilak), are friends who live together and are
unemployed. These three happen to meet Das, a lonely guy, who lives along with
an imaginary character, whom he calls as Shalu (Sanchita Shetty).
The three guys join hands with Das, who
does petty kidnaps for living. When the team's course run smooth the unexpected
jeopardy comes in the form of a kidnap assignment offered by a business man who
is affected by the anti-corruption acts carried out by the finance minister of
the state.
Knowing that this involves a lot of risk,
Das and his team make the kidnap successful. The next element of surprise which
the team faces is the self confession made by the minister's son Arumai
Nayagam. From here the story gets tumbled over and how Das and his team get rid
of the clutches forms the rest of the film.
Review :
We have seen a lot of kidnapping stories
and 99 percent of them have been crime thrillers which have a serious mood set
throughout. Nalan Kumarasamy, having kidnapping as the base has shaped up the
film in comical genre which is a fresh thinking.
The director has handpicked the artistes
for each roles and his choice is perfect, we must say. In the first half, the
film seems to a be a bit dragging, but from the moment when the team kidnaps
minister's son Arumai Nayagam, the film picks up pace.
Seriousness to the film is fed through the
role of the psychotic inspector Brahma (played by Yog Japee) who encounters all
the criminals involved in the cases he handles. However, his role also has a
funny ending, and this unexpected humor brings the roof down.
Though the logic seems missing in the
inspector's role, the chases and ideas made by Das' team to escape out of the
chaos, makes the second half more engaging.
One of the reason's for the film's lag is
that, humor has worked out only in parts. Vijay Sethupathi senior look is
perfect and the actor has played his role with ease. His broken English has not
helped in bringing the laughter out.
Simha, RJ Ramesh Thilak and Karuna Karan
have taken care of the humor part and MS Bhaskar has also contributed a bit to
it. Aruldass, who plays the role of Vijay Sethupathi's elder brother is a key
character in second half which helps in carrying the story forward.
Sanchita Shetty's role as a cute girl and
adds more value to Vijay Sethupathi's character. Their subtle romance is
looking good and even tend to bore us at times. However, director Nalan
Kumarasamy has kept her role short and sweet by having her role only in the
first half.
Santosh Narayanan's background score is all
that we need to mention first when it comes to the film's music. The main theme
of the film with trumpets and drum beats makes the kidnapping team look great
as a gang. 'Kasu Panam', 'Mama Trouser', 'Ellam Kadanthu Pogumada' and 'Come Na
Come' are good to listen. All the songs either have a vintage tint or a retro
feel in them.
