Review :

Balam tamil movie directed by Sanjay Gupta, written by Vijay Kumar Mishra, produced by Rakesh Roshan under his banner FilmKraft Productions. It features a love affair between two blind people, played by Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.

Rohan (Hrithik,) a proficient dubbing artiste and Supriya Sharma (Yami,) a talented pianist who despite their handicap have a positive disposition towards life and they get hitched. This much in love visually impaired couple, Rohan and Supriya, light up each other’s lives. But whether it is life or a Bollywood thriller, life is definitely not all song and dance. When a cad, Amit Shellar (Rohit Roy) and his scumy buddy Wasim (Sahidur Rahman) rape Supriya, Rohan’s world is plunged into even more darkness than the one in which he is born. Predictably the rapist Amit is the brother of the local Corporator, Madhavrao Shellar (Ronit Roy), so the corrupt police officers, played efficiently by Narendra Jha and Girish Kulkarni, drag their feet over the investigation. Though you know what’s next, the cat and mouse game still gives you an adrenaline rush.

Hrithik Roshan takes his career’s biggest risk with “Balam.” For somebody who is know for his charming looks and super stardom, it was a great challenge to take up such a role and Hrithik has given out a bravura performance. Yami provides the perfect foil, subtle and super effective. Sanjay Gupta made sure that the entire focus is on the script and nothing else. The outcome speaks it all. Brothers Ronit and Rohit Roy, shine in their roles and bring in the right baddie sauce to the dish. The dialogues are crisp and Hrithik’s monologue just when the interval sets in will get the theater up on their seats.

Rating : 2.5/5
