Neram is directed by debutant Alphonse Putharen who has proved his mettle in short films and song videos for album. Debutantes Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim play the lead pair, while Simhaa plays the villain.

Story :

The film's plot is about the problems which a common man faces during his bad time and the good time which follows after that. Nivin plays Vetri, while Nazriya Nazim is his lady love. Vatti Raja (Simhaa) is the one who earns his living by lending money for interest.

Vetri, who badly is in need of money to organize his sister's wedding, gets money from Vatti Raja through his friend as a link. Vetri suffers unemployment for a period of four months and this forces him to dodge Vatti Raja from returning the principal amount and interest to him. What follows next is a list of problems which pile up one above the other and what Vetri does to solve them forms the rest of the story.

Alphonse Putharen, the new entry to feature film making has admitted himself that his story is nothing new to the audience and we need to appreciate his boldness here. Though the story reminds us of something seen earlier, Neram has its own uniqueness in the form of its screenplay.

The film's key interest is the matter that the protagonist must find solutions for the problems within 5 pm on a particular day. This deadline makes the story gripping.  All the small roles which we seen in the first half of the film get into the main portion of the film in the second half and this shows how hard the director has worked for his screenplay.

Comedy has been kept as the key entertaining factor though Neram has twists happening in abundance. The major problem here is that the humor is not that interesting except a few portions. The director has also delivered his message of 'how to fight when a bad time comes and get rid of the clutches on our own'.

In the acting front, Simhaa walks away with the performer award. His image makeover as a terror money lender is convincing and he has played his role to perfection. Nivin Pauly's reactions could have been much more better. Nazriya Nazim is pretty and is a promising heroine for Kollywood.

Alphonse Putharen's edits keep the scenes glued together and keeps the continuity shots clear.  Cinematographer Anand C. Chandran is one of the key pluses to this film as his cinematography is something which we have not seen in much of the films before.

Music composed by Rajesh Murugesan is one of the key highlights of the film. The promo song ‘Pistah suma kira' has become a smashing hit among the masses. The evergreen Beethovan Symphony has been used along with different blend of instruments.

Verdict : Neram is an good entertainer, which can be appreciated for the team effort.
