Nadigayin Diary is yet another attempt to bring the plight of actresses into the celluloid and for the first time a film of such kind has been directed in Malayalam. The Tamil dubbed film has Sana Khan playing the lead role as actress Smitha and the story talks about how she emerges from the rags to the richest.

Story :
Sana Khan plays a girl who hails from a poor family and works as a domestic servant in an actress’s bungalow. Kumaresan is the one who works for the directors in finding them apt junior artistes and through this guy Sana Khan enters film industry. Fortunately for her, a well established director Victor Antony casts her as heroine and changes her name to Sumitha.

Sumitha’s first film turns out to be a blockbuster and from there on she becomes the latest sensation of the film industry. Bad times begin when Sumitha happens to meet an industrialist who voluntarily helps her in a couple of occasions. As days pass by their relationship reaches the bed and on the other side Sumitha continues with her career.

A shocking news which makes Sumitha realize that she has been cheated by the industrialist, arrives in the form her fan. What happens next, did Sumitha get rid of Kumaresan in her life and what he does to hide his mistake forms the rest of the story.

A film as a biography of an actress may be a first attempt in Mollywood, but it is nothing special considering the Tamil audience. Moreover, the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Dirty Picture which deals with the same kind of storyline is still fresh in our minds and so this film is more of a repetition of sorts.

However, the story writer Antony Eastman has given a different type of end for the story which gives it a tint of freshness.

The rise of Sumitha from the rags to the richest is shown in the first half which keeps it interesting, while the second half loses its pace when the mystery of how Sumitha gets cheated gets revealed. Though there are certain surprise packages in between, the predictability of the screenplay slows down the film’s pace.

Sana Khan, tough not very good with her expressions, has scored with the glamor. The actress looks hot and has been generous in showing off her curves which would interest the male audience a bit.

Music by Berny Ignatius doesn’t sound great, but SP Venkatesh’s background score is quite sensible.

Verdict : Nadigayin Dairy is nothing new, but can be watched for Sana Khan’s glamor.
Rating   : 3 / 5
