Kumki, the eagerly awaited film of Prabhu Solomon after the resounding success of his previous film 'Mynaa', has debutant Vikram Prabhu and Lakmi Menon in the lead roles. Thambi Ramaiah and Ashwin appear in key roles.

Storyline :
The story revolves around a small tribal village in a forest area in Tamil Nadu. Maathayan (Joe Malluri)  is the leader of the tribal gang and Alli (Lakshmi Menon) is his daughter. The village's inhabitants often face troubles from a rogue elephant named Komban, which destroys the crops, creates heavy financial damage and threat to the people.

The villagers decide to put an end to this by hiring a Kumki elephant (the elephants tamed by mahouts to control wild elephants). Bomman (Vikram Prabhu), under unexpected circumstances, disguises the villagers with Maanikam, a normal elephant as Kumki elephant. The guys who come in support of Bomman are Kothalli (Thambi Ramiah) and Undiyal (Ashwin).

Meanwhile, Bomman finds Alli interesting and falls in love with her at first sight. As the story is set now, a twist in the screenplay breaks the predictability of the film and the film delivers a punch with an unexpected end.

Highlights :
Vikram Prabhu : All eyes were focused on Vikram Prabhu as he has entered Tamil film industry with the label of Sivaji Ganesan's grandson and we must say he has lived up to the expectations. Vikram Prabhu's mannerism and dialogue delivery as a local tribal guy stands as a proof for his homework he has done behind the camera. Lakshmi Menon, though has been given a limited role, impresses with her realistic expressions.

Thambi Ramaiah is the one who walks away with the performer award. His ease in dialogue delivery, characterization, combined with his immense acting experience, separates him apart from the rest.

Other supporting character Ashwin has done a good job along with the lead Vikram Prabhu, while Junior Balaiah and Joe Malluri have made their presence felt.

Composer D Imman has played a crucial role in bringing up the realistic feel for the film. His background score fits perfectly for the screenplay and stirs the mood well, be it emotion, love or fun. We need not discuss much about the songs as they've become massive hits way before the film was released.

Cinematographer Sukumar has adapted well with the story's backdrop and has delivered a picture perfect lens work. His camera work helps us to feel the chill of the scenic locations and connect to the emotions of the gentle giant (elephant) as well.

L.V.K Doss's editing is a clean sheet, but needed a bit of trimming here and there to make the film crispy in the second half. Art director Vairabalan stands out for his effort in erecting a tribal village with in depth detailing.

On the whole, Prabhu Solomon's Kumki is a rejuvenating jungle safari for the audience with a blending of love.
Verdict : Kumki Claps

Rating : 3.5  /  5
