Thuppakki Movie Review and Rating

Director A.R Murugadoss' 'Thuppakki' has Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in the lead roles and Bollywood hottie Vidyut Jamwal plays the baddie. The technical crew includes some of the best in the industry like Santosh Sivan for cinematography, Sreekar Prasad for editing and Harris Jayaraj's tunes.

Storyline :

Jagadish (played by Vijay) is an army officer who comes to Mumbai to meet his family on a vacation. Nisha, (Kajal Agarwal) is a passionate young boxer and resides in Mumbai too. Their families decide to get both of them married, but on their first meeting, they both reject each other. A few incidents triggers love in between them.

The first serious twist comes when, Jagadish catches a terrorist who blasts a bus in Mumbai. Jagadish unofficially takes him into his custody and gets to know about the key motive behind the bomb blast. Jagadish lets the terrorist escape from his place and with the help of his friends in the army, he brings down a massive terror attack planned in Mumbai.

Knowing that the plan has been damaged, the leader of the gang leader, Vidyut Jamwal comes into picture to take revenge on Jagadish. From here the film travels in a brisk pace with Vijay and Vidyut Jamwal chasing down each other and counter attacks between them. The climax of the film has the thrilling encounter between the protagonist and the antagonist.

Highlights :

Thuppakki has a very familiar storyline of the hero chasing down rival country's terrorists, but A.R Murugadoss, with his uniqueness in screenplay has presented the film in a different way. Though, humor doesn't prevail throughout, Jayaram, Sathyan and even the lead stars Vijay and Kajal Agarwal have been used to tickle the funny bone.

Though the punch dialogues and gravity defying stunts are missing, Murugadoss has given the stardum for Vijay with his crisp action sequences and meaningful dialogues. Santosh Sivan's cinematography is a great plus to the film. His lens work in action sequences, chases and songs deliver the needed feel.

For sure Thuppakki did not receive the best of Harris Jayaraj (except the peppy Google Google), but the composer's background score has worked wonders for the film. The action sequences gets a more thrill with Harris' BGM and Santosh Sivan's cinematography.

Vijay has played his role to perfection. Vijay scores well in love and comedy scenes with is casual attitude. His action sequences are crisp, short and gets better effect with Santosh Sivan's cinematography and Harris' background score. Thuppakki is arguably Kajal Agarwal's bets in terms of performance so far as the actress has made a mark with her acting too. The dubbing voice used for her add more realistic feel to her acting.

Rating : 3.5 / 5
