Poda Podi Movie Review and Rating
'Poda Podi' is
directed by debutant Vignesh Shivan with STR and newface Varalakshmi
Sarathkumar in the lead roles. Dharan has scored the film's music, Duncan
Telford has handled the cinematography and Anthony has done the editing.
Storyline :
The film begins with
the narration of Nisha (Varalakshmi) and Arjun (Silambarasan) about their love
story. Nisha and Arjun get to meet each other in a pub, where both the leads
find each other interesting and begin to date from the very next day. After a
few days, Nisha proposes to Arjun and from this moment onwards hiccups in their
lives roll out. Nisha and Arjun get married to each other after mutually
accepting for a deal proposed by Nisha.
Nisha is passionate
of Salsa dance and her ambition is to win Britain's biggest dance rality show,
'Letz Dance'. Arjun finds her passion a great hindrance to his love as he hates
Nisha's closeness with her Salsa dance partner Mojo. Becoming possessive of
her, Arjun gets advice from his uncle (played by VTV Ganesh) and plans for a
child to stop her getting into dance classes. After the delivery, the couple
lead a happy life and when Nisha plans to get back to her dancing career, there
comes a flop show from Arjun's uncle Ganesh.
Ganesh reveals to
Nisha's aunty Shobana of his idea of having a kid to prevent Nisha from
dancing. Nisha overhears this and the film gets into an unexpcted twist here.
The second half of the film has tragedies which shake Nisha-Arjun's life and
their patch up through dance.
Highlights :
The director has
chosen an idea of delivering the film in seven episodes which is a new attempt.
The film gets interesting from the first twist in the screenplay which comes in
the end of first half. Only from here, the film has given scope for the lead
stars to perform. The drama and emotional imbalance happenning between Arjun
and Nisha are portrayed in a realistic way.
Simbu has done well
in emotional scenes, especially when Varalakshmi delivers her first child and
when he tries to patch up with her talking to Shobana.Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar
has done a fair job and main credit goes to her fluent Tamil accent. VTV Ganesh
has offered the much needed comedy relief to the film.
Dharan Kumar has used
the techno beats to deliver some foot tapping music. Duncan Telford's
cinematography has captured the picturesque location of London well and the
songs are really colorful.
Rating : 3.5 / 5
Verdict : Poda Podi - Vada Vadi To Audience
