Story, Direction, Production: K. J. Surendar. Driven by his love for cinema, he has filmed a fictional love story and achieved a degree of success with it.
He is now releasing this film, 'Mayabimbham', which was made 18 years ago.
The film beautifully depicts the love story between the daughter of a prostitute and a medical student studying MBBS. It explores whether their love was fulfilled or not. Although it's a film reminiscent of the 'Oru Thalai Ragam' era, Surendar has directed some scenes that are truly touching.
Janaki and Aakash have played the lovers. They live as true lovers in the film.
A girl named Janaki has acted in the film. Although dark-skinned, she is beautiful and radiant like Saritha of that era. She has acted very well. Her performance in the final scene, lying motionless like a corpse without blinking, is commendable.
I wonder what this beautiful actress from 18 years ago looks like now. It's a pity; if the film had been released then, she would have become a big star like Nayanthara by now. Because the film is being released late, her real-life career has ended up like the film's climax.
Aakash plays the medical student. He expresses his beautiful acting skills when he falls in love with Janaki and is forced into a situation where he has to commit euthanasia in the final scene, crying and writhing in agony.
The cinematographer is the backbone of this film. The film's cinematographer, the renowned Lokanath of that era, has captured the scenes beautifully, like delectable treats, completely immersing us in the film.
The music composer's work is also commendable.
Even though we know what's going to happen beforehand, there's no denying that some scenes wrench at the heartstrings.
It's evident from watching the film that the director has worked hard to showcase his talent. Let's appreciate K.J. Surendar, who has made such an attempt without having worked as an assistant to anyone in the league of Mani Ratnam. Let's watch the film for that reason also.
