The Tamil Nadu Athletic Association Held A 20 Kilometre Race Walking In Chennai

The competition was flagged off by MR. Jayakiran, Assistant Commissioner of Triplicane at 6 a.m on 16th February 2019.

The 20 km race took place between Munro Statue and Island Grounds. It took place in two categories including Elite and Ordinary. There were total  86 participants from India, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia.

Tamil Nadu Sports Secretaries, Mr.Dheeraj Kumar- IAS., Principal Secretary, Youth Welfare and Sports Development, ,Ms. Latha - secretary Tamilnadu Athletic Association of India , Mr.CK Valson -Secretary Athletics Federation of India distributed the prizes. In men's category, Irfan from Kerala won the first prize followed by Devendar Singh (Haryana) in the second place and Sandeep Kumar (Haryana) in third place.

In the girls category, Soumya (Kerala) came first followed by Priyanka (UP) in second and Raveena (Haryana) in third.

While a cash prize of Rs.50,000 was given to the winners, Rs.30,000 and Rs.20,000 was given to the second and third prize winners. Certificates and medals were given to all of them.

This competition will serve as a trial for selection of race walkers in Asian Race walking Championship to be held at Naomi City (Japan) on 17 March 2019.
