Actor Suhasini Maniratnam Launches 'Atlas Of Re-Imaginings'

Gallery Veda presents ‘Atlas of Re-Imaginings’ an exhibition featuring drawings, multimedia art and a trash art installation - ‘Wave’, by Artist Parvathi Nayar. The show is curated by Lina Vincent.

In the presence of Chief Guest Suhasini Maniratnam and Guest of Honour Mr. Pierre Emmanuel Jacob, Director, Alliance Francaise of Madras, the exhibition will be showcased from 18th August – 19th September 2018.

Parvathi Nayar

Chennai-based visual artist Parvathi Nayar plays an active role – and is deeply committed to supporting – the emerging renaissance of the contemporary in Chennai. Founder and member of art collective The Hashtag#Collective with architect Biju Kuriakose and Designer Abin Choudhuri. Parvathi is best known for her videos and her complex drawing practices; she also engages with sculpture, painting and photography. Her black-and-white graphite drawings are multifaceted works that look at the internal/intimate spaces within our bodies, and the external/public spaces in which we live, often through the prism of science and technology. Her works have been collected by institutions such as the Singapore Art Museum, BMW, HCL, The Sotheby’s Art Institute, The Australia India Institute and Deutsche Bank. Parvathi is a creative writer and poet. She writes as a cultural commentator on aspects of contemporary art such as modern dance and film.

Trash art installation – Wave

Parvathi’s trash art installation is inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave. It is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. It is widely accepted that it is as a depiction of a large rogue wave around Mount Fiji. This omnipresent image has inspired music, tattoos and even the ‘wave’ emojis on our phones.

Lina Vincent

Lina Vincent is an art historian and curator with over 15 years of experience in research, design, curation and public art programming. She is Chief Program Designer, Visual Art & Design for TFAI (Teaching for Artistic Innovation) Bangalore, and an Associate Curator with ARTPORT. She has a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Bangalore University and a master’s in Art History from the same institution. Her independent projects include Memorabilia, Gallery Sumukha, ‘Between the Lines: Identity, Place and Power—Selections from the Waswo X Waswo Collection of Indian Printmaking’.
