Free NEET Coaching Camps at Sathyabama Institute of Science

With less than a month left for the NEET 2018 examination, the Tamil Nadu government on Monday kick-started month-long residential camps across the state to help government plus two students who appeared for 12th Board Exams this year to crack NEET. An estimated 2,804 students will undergo the training at nine different engineering colleges in the state.The intensive course is designed to help them crack the competitive exam.

Pradeep Yadav Principal Secretary, School Education Department. launched the camp at the Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology campus where 350 students from 12 different districts had assembled and will undergo training. Among the nine centres, three will instruct students in English, while the remaining six will have Tamil as the medium of instruction.

Yadav said that students from government and government-aided schools have been selected to attend this programme on the basis of their scores in Class X. “The concept of residential coaching was brought in because we felt students could focus on their studies without any distractions and gain access to all the required facilities.The level of training that will be offered at these residential camps is not less than that in any private coaching centre. Since the test is relatively new for everyone, every student has an equal shot at cracking it,” he added.

128 teachers from government and government-aided schools had been sent on a training programme to Bengaluru in February by Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions  to prepare them to coach other students. Besides this, students will also be able to access VSAT sessions offered by Speed Coaching Institute.The teachers will be staying with the students as part of the residential programme.

The non-residential coaching classes will have nearly 6,260 students taking up classes in Tamil and 1,973 students attending the English classes. In districts such as Karur, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Tiruchi and Thiruvarur, there are fewer than 10 students who have signed up for English classes. Virudhunagar, a district which has consistently churned out high board exam results, has the most number of students enrolling for the course.

“While only two students from government and aided schools managed to crack the NEET last year, this year we are hoping that the numbers will be much higher than 2000,” said Mr. Yadav.

Among the nine centres where the residential programme is taking place, three will have the crash course in English where private coaching centres will offer additional resources. Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions will be assisting teachers in two centres and Allen Career Institute will help out at one centre.

Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology will house 350 students (63 Boys & 287 Girls) over the next one month. “We have arranged for hostel accommodation for the students on campus and, apart from attending classes, they are also encouraged to use our library facilities. Some of our lecturers will be available for them if they need any added coaching,” said Mariazeena Johnson, Pro-Chancellor of the institute.
