SHORT HISTORY OF THIS SHRINE:-

This Little Mount Shrine campus holds together crucial historic evidence within it, to present to the whole world of faithful and tourists. It is a historic possession of Chennai City. The Holy Shrine has its origin from AD 68. St. Thomas one of Jesus’ own disciples lived in Little Mount for 13 years out of 20 years that he stayed in India. St. Thomas was also dedicated to Mother Mary.  St. Thomas attained first stroke martyrdom in this area and Christianity was born here even before the European countries.

In the course of history the church that is dedicated to Mother Mary was built in AD 1551 by Portuguese in this rocky elevated piece of land. Other buildings came up later. The new circular church was built in 1971. Other historical monuments housed in this campus are the cave where St. Thomas lived, the altar, the miraculous spring, the bleeding cross and the various carvings on the rock surfaces.

This place is well connected by Road, Suburban rail and Metro rail. Rev. Fr. P.J. Lawrence Raj is the present Rector and Parish priest of this Shrine. All are welcome and be blessed.
