Legendary Editor Sekar Passed Away At 81

Sometimes, few great personalities prefer staying away from limelight. They don’t seek public glare though they deserve it. Such happens to the legendary editor Sekar, who passed away now. Aged 81, he has been the most celebrated editor of Indian film industry with his realms in industry for 50 years with 200 films. He holds special mention for being the editor of India’s first ever 3D Film ‘My Dear Kutty Chaattan’ followed by South India’s first ever Cinemascope film ‘Thacholi Ambu’ and South India’s first ever 70mm film ‘Padaiyaattam’.

He won the first Kerala State Government award for his movie ‘Onnu Mudhal Poojyam Varai’ starring Mohanlal in lead role. His first Tamil Nadu State Government Award happens to be Varusham 16. His last movie as editor was director Siddiqui’s Saadhu Miranda. After this, he got retired from showbiz and settled in Trichy.

He was commuted hospital for a General health check up, where he complained about chest pain. The doctors gave their best to revive him, but he breathed his last. He is survived by his wife Sundari and three daughters – Deepa Lakshmi, Thilakavathy and Nithya. All the daughters are married.

One of his highlighting features is that he doesn’t sit just before the editing table. But he works like almost a co-director to all the filmmakers. He will be completely there at the shooting spots, where he is asked for advice upon the length of movie. In this context, the movie’s budget was brought down in control.

It’s really a big disappointment and black day for the entire Indian film industry to have missed such a great gem of personality.
