25th National Children’s Science Congress 2017 at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology
The 25th National Children’s Science Congress 2017 was hosted at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University) on 8th-10th December 2017.
The event is an initiative of the National Council for science and Technology , DST, GoI. It is State coordinated by the Tamilnadu science Forum. School children from 33 districts of tamilnadu representing different schools were selected for this state level event.
The program commenced with the child scientist procession flag off by Dr. R. Srinivasan, Member secretary TNSCST . The inauguration was presided by the Chief Guest Dr. K.K. Vijayan ,CIBA Director, Ministry of Agriculture, our Guests of honour Dr. Srikanth Tripathy ,Director (I/C) , NIRT, Indian Council of Medical Research, Ministry of Health &family Welfare, Dr. V. Banumathi ,Director National Institute of Sidhha, Ministry of AYUSH and Dr. Subba Rao, Chief Scientist National metallurgical laboratory , CSIR, Ministry of Science and Tecchnology. Dr. B. Sheela Rani Director (Research) welcomed the Dignitaries, invited guests and children participants to the event.
Dr. T.V . Venkateswaran from Vignan prasar, DST briefed the program highlights along with Mrs. S. Mohana State president Tamil Nadu Science Forum The Pro-chancellor Dr. Mariazeena Johnson and Vice- president Dr. Marie Johnson delivered the presidential address. Mr. K.Senthamil selvan TNSF gave the vote of thanks.
All the address given by the guests truly inspired and motivated the children a lot.
The second day witnessed the 281 presentations by the 1500 child participants which was a lively scientific interaction. The eminent scientist interacted with the children to encourage their scientific and technical skills. Corner activites and plenary talks kept the children enthusiastically engaged. The night sky watch (telescopic view) added to their pure joy of exploration and curious mind was rekindled. The third day concluded with the valedictory and briefing for the selected shortlisted participants for the national level science congress to be held in Science city, Gujarat. All the children enjoyed the three days and were enriched.

Best five student scientific models will be presented in front of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri.P.Narendra Modi during the National Level Children Science Congress to be held at Science City, Gujarat during 26th to 31st December 2017 .
ABOUT NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COMMUNICATION (NCSTC)
DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
It is mandated to communicate Science and Technology to masses, stimulate scientific and technological temper and coordinate and orchestrate such efforts throughout the country. The programmes of NCSTC aims at building capacity for informed decision making in the community and promote scientific thinking. The NCSTC focuses on outreach activities, training in Science and Technology communication, development, production & dissemination of S & T software, incentive programmes, and field based Sci-Com projects, research in S&T communication, international co-operation, motivating students and teachers, environment awareness and programmes with a special component exclusively for women. Some of its important successful initiatives, over the years include the campaigns over the Year of Scientific Awareness, Year of Physics, Year of Astronomy, Year of Mathematics, observation of the National Science Day and National Mathematics Day, National Children’s Science Congress, National Teacher’s Science Congress, and Science Express etc.
National Children's Science Congress is an opportunity for brilliant young scientists (10 -17 years of age group), started since 1993 to popularize science. Innovative projects are selected for district congress, state congress and national congress. The NCSC has been organized in almost all districts every year with more and more schools joining the activity. Each state also sends two delegates to the annual session of the Indian Science Congress.
