Universal Pictures Presents The Mummy

The Mummy’ is the title of several horror-adventure film series centered on an ancient Egyptian priest who is accidentally resurrected, bringing with him a powerful curse, and the ensuing efforts of heroic archaeologists to stop him. These three series of films accompany a spin-off film series, two comic book adaptations, three video games, an animated television series, and a roller coaster ride.  While ‘The Mummy’ (1999) and ‘The Mummy Returns’ (2001) were directed by Stephen Sommers, the 3rd film of the series, ’The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ (2008) was directed by Rob Cohen.

The Mummy is an American action-adventure horror movie directed by Alex Kurtzman and written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie. The Mummy is a reboot of The Mummy franchise. Though safely buried inside a tomb deep beneath the desert, an ancient princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella of ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ and ‘Star Trek Beyond’) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, thanks to the efforts of a former military man, Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) who is on a journey to the Middle East in search of a long-lost crypt. An ancient, inexplicable curse binds Morton to Princess Ahmanet as he gets more than he bargained for though – much more, in fact – after freeing Sofia Boutella’s unruly deity and subsequently bringing about the end of days. Flanked by Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) and Sgt. Vail (Jake Johnson), the fate of London and potentially the entire world rests on Tom Cruise’s shoulders! Russell Crowe appears as Dr. Henry Jekyll and it is known that Tom Hardy and Eddie Redmayne were considered for the role. It is believed that this character is expected to be shaped on the lines of Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde in the future films of this franchise! 

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

 It is worth noting that the character of Ahmanet is loosely based on the Egyptian Goddess, Amunet! The film has been shot at locations in U.K., Namibia, Surrey and London. Reportedly made at a cost of $125 million, the film has a running time of 107 minutes.
