Review :

Rangoon is a movie from debutant director Rajkumar Periasamy, an assistant of AR Murgadoss, who has produced the film.  Hero Gautham Karthik gets sucked into gold smuggling who is basically a burma refugee and even involves into kidnapping children for money.  There arises the colorful romance between the Gautham Karthik and Sana Makbul.  There's so much to like about Gautham Karthik's act in the movie but sometimes the chocklaty face of him does not suit this wild character which is one of the drawback in this movie but anyways he has done his best in the movie.  The dialogues in this movie is a plus for Gautham.  Sana even done her best Sana, unfortunately, in her debut has very little to contribute.  A thrilling action-drama about three friends who are betrayed during a high-value gold deal in Burma.  Malyalam actor Siddique has performed his role rocking as usual as a silent villan.  The investigative officer Syed Nawazuddin and his assistant good subramani hatches plan to lay down the hero Gautham where he and his friends reach Rangoon in a clever way without falling prey to the traps laid by the officer.

Atthoe, Lallu, Daniel, Rennis all has done their part well as Brumians. What makes Rangoon an impressive film is its casting, interesting screenplay with twists and turns at the right time, the performances and the flawless technicalities by GK prasanna.  Cinematography of Anish showing the streets are olden and new Burma are marvellous.  Vishal's songs stands out and Vikram’s songs deserve mention.

Though the core concept is so raw, the treatment is largely commercial. That is where Rajkumar Periasamy had made use of the guessing game, leaving the audience to keep thinking about what would happen next shooting up the nuances of friendship both good and bad.

On the whole Rangoon is a good plot which is being encouraged well and again proves the talent of director A.R. Murugadoss and probably Rangoon is Gautham Karthik’s best work till date and it could very well give his career a much-needed break.

Rating - 3/5
