Review :
Villadhi Villain Veerappan written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The film is based on the real-life Indian bandit Veerappan and the events leading to Operation Cocoon, a mission to capture and kill him. The film stars Sandeep Bharadwaj, Sachiin J Joshi, Usha Jadhav, and Lisa Ray.
“Villadhi Villain Veerappan” is not a biopic of the forest brigand. It does not deal with the life of Sandalwood smuggler Veerappan. The movie covers the mission carried out by the Special Task Force to eliminate him.
Veerappan (Sandeep Bharadwaj) is a sandalwood and ivory smuggler, killing elephants in the forest lands covering about 6,000 sq. km in the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. He kills Police officers, forest officials, and informants who resisted his activities. He is brought to the attention of the Government, when he kills an IFS officer in the forest. After many failure attempts to capture Veerappan, the Governments appoints a Special Task Force under an efficient cop Vijay Kumar (Shivaraj Kumar). The STF launches a plan under the code name “Operation Cocoon” to nab and kill the smuggler. How STF police officer and his team plunges into action to kill Veerappan forms the rest of the story.
Ram Gopal Varma has effectively used all these to make an engaging thriller. The movie also works due to the actors - the amazing Sandeep Bhardwaj as the titular Veerappan, Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar as Special Task Force Officer. Parul Yadav as Shriya one who helps the police officer has given good performance. Yagna Shetty as Muthulakshmi is good too. Editing is quite interesting. Ram Gopal Varma as writer of story and screenplay and director has once again shown that he is still potent filmmaker.
Rating - 2.5/5
