Uriyadi Indian political thriller film, written, directed and produced by Vijay Kumar. The film
stars Kumar, Mime Gopi, Citizen Sivakumar, Chandru Kumar in the main roles. The film's
songs were composed by Masala Coffee and the background score was by Kumar and
cinematography by Paul Livingstone and editing handled by the Abhinav Sunder Nayak.
The story revolves around three tracks – 4 final year college students, Vijay Kumar, Chandru, Jeyakanth and Sivaperumal who are very energetic and carefree, a politician, Mime Gopi who is eager to come up with his own caste based political party and Suruli,a part time engineering student. The movie opens with showcasing the daily life of the 4 college students, alongside the politician who also runs a dhaba on the highway where the students frequently visit and get in touch with the politician. On the other hand, the part time engineer who is weak on the girls side sets an eye on one college girl who seems to be the ex-girlfriend of Vijay Kumar.
One night, four friends get drunk heavily and accidentally end up irking some of the caste
fanatics. Kumar happens to see this along with his uncle and contemplates to take advantage
of this tensed situation. Similarly, on several such situations, the students get into trouble
with the locals. On one such instance in the dhaba, the politician comes to their rescue and
hence they get in touch with each other. But later that night, one of the student gets attacked by the locals and in turn the students get very furious and they chase them and gets into a fight. On the other hand, Vijay’s ex-girlfriend gets harassed by the part time student which gets witnessed by Sivaperumal and starts hitting the part time student. He also conveys the same to Vijay and to their surprise, in the dhaba awaits the part time student’s guys who are waiting to target Sivaperumal.
When all this is happening, the politician is keen on launching his own caste based party for
the next election and is drafting all plans for kickstarting the party. He is finding strong
reasons to form as a base for starting his party.
Though most of the actors have made their debut through Uriyadi, none of them look like
they are featuring in their first film. Vijay Kumar, who has played the lead, looks convincing
enough while pulling off various emotions and action sequences. Mime Gopi, perhaps the
only known face in the entire movie, adds solidity in the casting department. Cinematography by Paul Livingstone is commendable, especially in the blood-splattering action sequences.
Rating : 3.5/5
