Review :
Pencil directed by debutant Mani Nagaraj and produced by S. P. Ragavesh. Mani Nagaraj was a former assistant director to Gautham Vasudev Menon. The film features G. V. Prakash Kumar, Sri Divya and Shariq Hassan in the lead roles and VTV Ganesh, T.P.Gajendran, Balaji Venugopal, Ravi Prakash and Abishek Shankar in other supporting roles. This film is produced by SS.P.ragavesh under Kalsan Movies Pvt Ltd banner. Cinematography for the film have been done by Gopi Amarnath and Editing of the film is handled by Anthony.
Shiva(G V Prakash) is a brilliant 12th standard student who is secretly in love with his class mate Maaya(Sri Divya). As time passes by, a star hero’s son, Nithin(Shariq Hassan) joins the school and becomes a huge head ache for all the girls in the school and also to the teachers who manage him. His notorious activities get to a point where everyone starts hating him big time. Twist in the tale arises when Nithin suddenly gets murdered in the school premises and both Shiva and Sri Divya stumble upon his dead body. Left with no choice, they decide to go behind the motive of this murder. Rest of the story is as to how do they investigate the mystery and find out who the actual murderer is.
The cast has been chosen judiciously, with everyone giving flawless performance. G.V and Sri Divya have played their roles aptly. Shaariq Hassan has done fantastic job in the role of Nithin. The character of VT Ganeshan is funny. Urvashi, TP Gajendran, Abhishek Shankar and others have done justification with their roles and their performances are the big assets of the movie. The director must be appreciated for choosing to experiment with a school based script at this juncture in Kollywood. Music has been handled well by G.V and the cinematography walks hand in hand with the script.
Rating : 3/5
