'Kanavu Variyam' Wins 6 International Awards

Director Arun Chidambaram’s ‘Kanavu Variyam’ has won 6 National & International recognitions until now. It has been selected to be screened at 19th Shanghai International Film Festival in China, scheduled between June 11-19, 2016. Earlier in April it won 2 Prestigious Remi Awards at WorldFest-Houston. ‘Kanavu Variyam’, a movie based on Power-cuts in villages across Tamil Nadu won the Platinum Remi Award for Best Theatrical Feature Film and a song from the film ‘Kalla Manna’ has won the Silver Remi Award for Best Children’s Song at 49th WorldFest-Houston. ‘Kanavu Variyam’ was also selected as the Audience Favorite movie at 49th WorldFest.These awards were presented to Director Arun Chidambaram, along with the film's Co- Producer Karthik Chidambaram at the 49th WorldFest Houston International Film Festival scheduled from April 8-17, 2016. According to the WorldFest jury, a film that scores between 85 to 89 on 100 is awarded a Silver Remi; a film which scores between 90 to 94 is awarded a Gold Remi and one which scores between 95 and 99 wins a Platinum Remi award. ARUN CHIDAMBARAM IS THE FIRST TAMIL DIRECTOR TO WIN 2 REMI AWARDS FOR A TAMIL MOVIE. Apart from playing
the lead role and directing the movie, Arun has written the Story, Screenplay, ialogues and Lyrics for ‘Kanavu Variyam’.

REMI AWARD AT WORLDFEST

The previous recipients of Remi award include Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List), Ridley Scott (Gladiator,The Martian), George Lucas (Star Wars) and Ang Lee (Hulk, Life of Pi) Of over 4500 entries for all categories, from over 74 movie-producing nations worldwide, ‘Kanavu Variyam’ won 2 Remi awards.

WORLD PREMIERE

Earlier 'Kanavu Variyam’ had its World Premiere in WorldFest-Houston on Apr 9, 2016, which turned out to be a grand success. “The entire Houston Tamil and Indian community, film lovers, critics, directors, people from all over the world attending World-Fest including United States, United Kingdom, China, Japan, South Africa, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Canada came in large numbers to watch and support ‘Kanavu Variyam’. ‘Kanavu Variyam’ received rave reviews from everyone who watched its World Premiere. Every one who watched this film unanimously quoted “Fantastic film. Kanavu Variyam is fun and inspiring. This is a movie that kids must definitely watch”. People from different countries and children waited in line to give the World Premiere Public Opinion. This will create curiosity amongst kids and college grads to watch this inspiring film back home. It will be a must watch inspirational entertainer of this year. We will plan the theatrical release soon in Tamil Nadu” says the delighted Co-Producer Karthik Chidambaram. After receiving the award, Director Arun Chidambaram said “This is a big encouragement for a debutante director. This award has given tremendous confidence to the entire team of ‘Kanavu Variyam’. Arun Chidambaram, Writer and Director of the movie 'Kanavu Variyam,' completed his Masters in USA and worked for JP Morgan Chase in Chicago. Arun quit his lucrative job in United States and returned to Chennai, India to pursue his dream and passion in Cinema. Arun has also won personal accolades from the former President of India Dr.APJ.Abdul Kalam.

Arun, is the son of 'Aanazhagan' Dr.A.Chidambaram, an Indian Sportsman, US trained Physical Culturist and a pioneer in the field of Physical Culture in Southern India for more than 4 decades. Kanavu Variyam is produced by Dr.A.Chidambaram and Karthik Chidambaram in the banner of DCKAP Cinemas.
