Winners Of International And National Categories Honoured

Chennai – The Radaan Film Festival announced the 2016 winners of short film winners in International and National categories amidst the star-spangled occasion of grandeur.

Insatiable passion for films and voracious dreams to accomplish in the showbiz has always been running like stream of inwardness in Radaan Network. Accomplishing trenchant marks of best showpieces in films and small screens, Radaan extended its feat into a new panorama of encouraging short filmmakers. In fact, last evening turned to be a gate opening moment for aspiring filmmakers, who were acknowledged with huge acclaims for their short films.

The occasion was studded with these most acclaimed film personalities along with Radhika Sarath Kumar, Arya, veteran filmmaker-screenwriter-actor K. Bhagyaraj, his son Shanthnoo, Prithvi Pandiaraj, VJ Ramya, Ganesh Venkatram and Nisha, Panchu Subbu et al...


Short feature titled ‘Odam’, written and directed by Vivek Elangovan bagged the ‘Title Winner’ award with prize money of Rs. 1, 50,000. The film is an edge-seated thriller shot across the backdrops of Istanbul and a luxurious cruise laced with emotions based on an international issue.

‘Nizhal’ – a psycho-thriller by Anjali Padmarajan won the ‘Runners-Up’ title for an unconventional theme set as its backdrops. Actor Arya felicitated the title winner and runners up appreciating their works.

Speaking on the occasion, Arya uttered, “Sometimes, it’s really hard to spend 3 hours of time with an assistant director on narration. Every profession, even the strata of 10K salary demands certain qualifications, where the candidates are insisted upon their portfolios and works. When it comes to films, such efforts from Radaan Short Film Festival are really appreciable for introducing new talents. It lets everyone to analyze the potentials of respective filmmakers before getting them onboard.”

Mr. Sarath Kumar, Santhosh Narayanan and Balaji Mohan came upon the dais to honour the ‘Title winner’, ‘First Runners-Up’ and ‘Second Runners-Up’.

Asariri – An emotional love story with a sci-fi drama didn’t win the ‘Title Winner’ alone, but just swept everyone off the feet with its incredible plot and beautiful narration.

Irudhi Varai was entitled as ‘First Runners Up’, a simple yet eye moistening love story that revolves around a married couple. The film encompasses the concept – when everything fails, True love can work miracles.


Thadai gained ‘Second Runners Up’ and was highly appreciated for its stark narration. The story is about a youngster on his first day as a cop and the upheavals that await him before he crosses the street.

Balaji Mohan, a filmmaker who gained immense platform through short films expressed his heartfelt thanks to Radaan for encouraging short filmmakers.

Music director Santhosh Narayanan, a man of few words said, “I gained some recognition through my collaboration with short filmmakers. We owe a lot to short films and would make sure that we promote the talents from this league.”

Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, well illustrated personality for making a big time in film industry through short films uttered that such efficient platforms like RSFF will be a gate opener to the ones, who have been unceasingly longing for an identity.



Mr. Sarath Kumar congratulated his wife Mrs. Radhika Sarath Kumar and daughter Rayanne Hardy for treating this endeavour with much care and support.

Mrs. Radhika Sarath Kumar jocularly added saying, “There were times, when I used to come upon the dais as celebrity. Today, I am elated to see that my daughter Rayanne asked me to hold her handbag for a while before getting to dais. Before years, the filmmakers had to convince the actors and producers with their storytelling. But with the times changes, this trend of short films are making things easier to zero in the best talents.”

Finally, extending her vote of thanks, Rayanne Hardy cited, “As soon as the announcements pertaining to this short film festival was made, the entries ran into monstrous numbers; say more than 200, in both categories with most of them possessing exceptional themes. The 25 best among them were shortlisted and were uploaded on YouTube followed by cherry-picks of 10 movies. The bench of special juries –  Sarath Kumar, Mrs. Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, Filmmakers Balaji Mohan, Karthik Subbaraj, Music director Santhosh Narayanan, Editor Anthony, Cinematographer Rathinavel shortlisted the best 6 short features among them along with winner and runners-up in International category... We assure that, RSFF will be back again next year and affirm that the proficient talents will be introduced into showbiz through this venture.”
