Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth Dhanush’s Standing on an apple Box

HarperCollins Publishers India has acquired world rights in a debut work by Aishwaryaa R. Dhanush. Standing on an Apple Box is a beautifully written memoir in vignettes that offers unexpected glimpses into Aishwaryaa’s own life and that of her stupendously popular father, actor and superstar Rajinikanth. With heartwarming honesty, it reflects on the many roles a woman has to juggle at home and outside – often, as in her case, under the watchful eyes of cameras and celebrity-watchers.

Aishwaryaa R. Dhanush is a film director and startup entrepreneur. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and a voracious reader. In 2015, she set up Ten Entertainment, a digital medium to promote short film content. Additionally, she oversees the production activities of Wunderbar Films, a production company launched by her actor-husband Dhanush. The book will be published to coincide with her father’s birthday on 12 December 2016.

The idea came about one day’, says Aishwaryaa ‘to collate incidents, thoughts and memories, to recollect and cherish the many life lessons I learnt from my father. Simply put, to tell a story through different stages and episodes in my life, the highs and lows as seen through my eyes. This seemed simple at first, but it turned out to be quite complex, as you will see. It’s wonderful to be working with HarperCollins India, and I look forward to a long association.’

Karthika V.K, Publisher and Chief Editor, HarperCollins India, said she was captivated by the first few chapters that she got to read and was immediately excited about publishing the book. ‘Standing on an Apple Box is full of delightful stories and memories of growing up in cinema-land. It’s intensely personal, but also inspirational in the way it reflects on the joys and difficulties of being a woman in our time.’
