Lyricist Parvathy and Kollywood..
I am Parvathy, born and
brought up in Chennai. I took Advanced English as one of my subjects in
higher secondary of schooling, and completed under-graduation and
post-graduation in English literature from Ethiraj college, Chennai. I
also did M.Phil in Mass Communication. Although I studied English
literature, I have been interested in Tamil since young. Bharathiyar was
a great influence during my growing up years and continues to be one of
my inspirations.
I
was an active member of journalist - political commentator Gnani's
theatre group 'Pareeksha' for a few years. During that period, I have
acted in several plays and short films, and have also dubbed for some
short films. I have not been acting since the last few years though. I
have been part of many media, having anchored programmes in Podhigai for
five years and freelancing as a journalist for few magazines, including
'The Week'.
I
brought out my first book of poetry in Tamil, 'Ippadikku Naanum
Natpum', when studying. It was inspired by poet Arivumathi's
'Natpukaalam'. I then brought out my second book of poetry, 'Idhu Vaeru
Mazhai', in 2010. The foreword for the book was written by ace director
AR Murugadoss. I then started trying my luck in films. Vallinam was my
first film, and I wrote my first song Nakula, which was picturised on
and sung by actor Nakul himself. But Jilla, in which I wrote the
superhit song 'Verasa Pogayilae' released first. It was followed by two
songs - the superhit 'Kannukkul Pothivaippen' and 'Yaaro Ival' in
'Thirumanam Enum Nikkah'. Then came 'Amarakaaviyam' in which I wrote the
beautiful melody 'Edhedho Ennam Vandhu'. I am now writing for 8 films,
including KaLam and Kolanji. I am happy about being nominated for 3
songs in the recently concluded Mirchi Music Awards.
