VIGIL” (Vision In Global & Indian Logistics), a national conference on Logistics in its 2^nd year brings together international and national professionals from the logistics industry speaking about the trends and growth in the logistics sector in India. Inaugurated by His Excellency Dr K Rosaiah, Governor of Tamil Nadu, this year the theme was “Glocalising Logistics”as the way forward for India. It essentially means locally servicing the global customer.

Today in many organizations, it is not uncommon to witness an absence of a logistics expert. This results not only in poor company planning but disorganized processes as well. Logistics training is a business necessity for any small, medium or large company, strongly feels Mr. Vinod K Srivastava of Lenovo India who was one of the guest speakers at VIGIL 2015.

 “Logistics involves so many critical business activities that nearly every Fortune 500 and Global company can be considered a potential employer for logistics managers” says Mr. Xavier Britto, Chairman of Indev Logistics, whose is the brain behind this conference. We conceptualized VIGIL to be a platform where logistics industry experts interact and speak with the public especially students who wish to pursue a career in logistics. This year during my interaction with global logistics managers at Hannover Messe, Germany, we saw the huge potential for India to become one of Asia’s largest logistics hub and attract business from e-commerce giants. VIGIL also saw Mr. Patrick Rupprecht from Dusseldorf, Germany speaking on retailing and global logistics.

“We partnered in VIGIL as I believe that the first step for a career in logistics is knowledge and business skills of the logistics process” says Mrs. Vimala Britto, Correspondent, St Britto’s College,Chennai which is one of the few institutes to offer graduate and post graduate programs in logistics management.

Experts from logistics sector be it rail, road or air were present and spoke of the growth and opportunities in their respective fields.An interesting part of VIGIL was the talk on how to establish a logistics business from scratch for youngsters with an entrepreneurial spirit.“I was working as a custom house agent, when I founded Indev Logistics way back in 1984” humbly says Mr Xavier Britto whose INDEV today is considered one of the large logistics player who service across sea, air and road. Known for bringing many pioneering and innovative practises in this field, he shared his experiences and knowledge with the large number of people & students who had gathered at the VIGIL conference.
