New Singing sensation in “Uthama Villain” - Singer Rukmini Ashok Kumar
It was a dream comes
true for the new singer Rukmini Ashok Kumar who has sung a song with
Ulaganayagan, Padma Bhushan Dr.Kamal Haasan in his latest film “Uttama
Villain”.
When she shared her
experiences about how she got the chance to sing in Ghibran’ Music for Kamal Haasan’s
Uttama Villain, “It all began when I met music director Ghibran at an audio
function and told him that I am a singer and wanted to sing in his composition.
He told me to send my demo CD to him. After some days I got a call from his
office to come to the recording theatre in Valasaravakkam. He asked me whether I know Carnatic music and
I told him I have learned it and also learning Hindustani Music. He told me to
sing the lines and everything was over in no time only with his able guidance.
He said that the director of the movie must approve it and I was waiting for
the green signal from his office. Every now and then I used to call his office
and ask whether my voice is accepted and before the release of the audio on
March 1, I came to know that it was for the film “Uthama Villain” and I was
excited to know it. I thanked music director Ghibran for giving me the biggest
song in my career” she said.
She also added, “Singing
for a music director like Ghibran who knows music, singing the lines written
and sung by the legend Kamal Haasan, who is a master in all departments of film
making is something more than an Oscar award for a new singer like me. One can
see in the music album of “Uthama Villain” Kamal sir has written nearly all the
songs and has sung it with some singers. In ‘Iraniyan Naadagam’ he has sung it
only with me. In all other songs more than one singer has sung with him. Music
director Ghibran told me that Kamal sir’s favourite number in the album is
“Iraniyan Naadagam”, which has Bulgarian Symphony orchestra. I did not know how
to thank both Kamal sir and music director Ghibran for giving this opportunity”.
Just few days before
the Audio Release of Uttama Villain, Rukmini Ashok Kumar got the news that her
song was approved by Kamal Haasan. She met Kamal Haasan and got his blessings & wrote
“Isaiyum Vazhkaiyum Sirakka Vazhthukkal” (let music and my life must always
prosper) and signed it and took a photograph with him. Blessing letter from Kamal
Haasan is a treasure for her she added.
This is her first released
film song in Tamil. She has sung for music director Deva sir for a Sai Baba
album and also sung for SS.Kumaran sir for his Malayalam movie “Kerala.Com” and
a Tulu number too. She has lent her voice for music directors V.Thashi, Faisal,
Prem, Manikanth Kadhri and L.V Ganesan. She learnt Carnatic music from
Hemalatha Narismhan and Padma Chandilyan and currently pursuing Hindustani
vocal training from Pandit Ballesh master and his son's Krishna and Prakash.
