Femfest and cultural 2015 at Sathyabama University Photos

“When girls are educated, their countries become stronger and more prosperous” – by Michelle Obama which underlies the power and importance women in an economy. “When a man is educated, another man is educated; where as if a women is educated, the nation will be educated. In a country like India, where the ratio of women population is becoming lesser when compared to men, it is our duty to reward and honour the women achievers along with encouraging the women to identify their strength so that they can shape the future of our country and the world as well.

Sathyabama University organizes FEMFEST every year in order to honour the women achievers from different walks of life and to encourage women to showcase their talents in culturals and sports. The 8th edition of FEMFEST (for 2014-2015) year will be held from 12th to 14th February, 2014 at University campus. The Inspiring Icon Award of India will be awarded by Colonel Dr. Jeppiaar, Chancellor, Sathyabama University in the august presence of Dr. Marie Johnson and Dr. Mariazeena Johnson, Directors of Sathyabama University. The award Distribution Ceremony will take place on 14th February, 2015 at 5.30pm. This year FEMFEST will honour the following personalities who have excelled in their respective fields, with INSPIRING ICON AWARD OF INDIA.

INSPIRING ICON AWARD OF INDIA RECIEPIENTS:

• Dr. MATHANGI RAMAKRISHNAN, an Avvaiyar Award recipient from Government of Tamilandu and the Chairperson of Child Trust Medical Research Foundation, Chennai. She is known for her contribution to the field of Medicine and social service to the down trodden.

• Ms.Ramalakshmi, Scientist, one among the fourteen scientists who have made the travelling cost cheaper to travel from the earth to Mars and made India to be listed in the top three countries who have achieved this milestone.

• Ms.Rathika Ramasamy, Wild life photographer – a computer Engineer and MBA graduate by qualification, she is one of the top 20 wild life especially bird photography in India.  She has the credit of visiting all the Bird parks in India and in Africa.

• Padma shri Ms. Madhuri Dixit, Actoress -  known for her action and dance with Indian Cinema Industry.  Started acting from 1984, she is the queen of bollywood for more than 20 years.  Her online dance academy which is accessible in 172 countries has more than 1,00,000 users at present.

• Padma Bhushan Mary Kom, Boxer – popularly known as magnificent Mary, five times World Amateur Boxing Champion and the only boxer who has won a medal in each of the six world championships. She is the recipient of Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and Padma Bhushan Award. She has got the distinction of her name is being used US President in his speech of Women empowerment during his three day tour to our Country in 2015.

• Ms.Sujatha Burla, Investment  Banker, Anchor who has converted her threat as opportunity and changed her profession and at present she is an investment banker and working as an anchor for popular TV shows

• Dr.Bombay Jayashri, Carnatic Music Vocalist – Born in Kolkatta, trained in Bombay and settled at present in Chennai known for her voice and command over Carnatic Music.  A recipient of Kalaimamani Award from Government of Tamilnadu and Sangeetha Choodamani award from her Guru Lalgudi Jayaraman.

• Ms.Sagarika Ghose, Jounalist & Author – Consulting Editor, Times of India Group and the one among the famous women journalists in India. She is known for thought provoking arguments and questions of the current topics in her brain child program “Face the Nation”.


In additional to the award distribution function, this three day mega festival includes

• Thirumati. Remibai Jeppiaar Femfest Trophy – National Level Inter Collegiate Tournament for Girls will be unfurled by Mr. Gowtham Gambhir, Famous Indian Cricketer. on 12th February, 2015 at 5pm.

• Musical nite by Mr. Udit narayanan, Famous Playback Singer  on 12th February, 2015

• Musical Nite by Mr. Vijay Prakash, Famous Playback singer on 13th February, 2015.

Cultural and sports competitions will be conducted among the girl students from various colleges / University in India. Around 300 Institutions with more than 2000 girl students will be participating this mega event. The overall winner will be awarded with a mega prize of two wheeler.
