Sharukkahan, Madhavan, Sivakarthikeyan and now “Manal Nagaram” Prajin!

Sharukkahan, Madhavan, Sivakarthikeyan and now “Manal Nagaram” Prajin!  Is it the small screen which gives successful heroes on silver screen?

An interview with Prajan!

Starting from Sharukkhan, Madhavan to Sivakarthikeyan, success rate of artistes from small screen to silver screen continues. It’s actor Prajin who has joined the race from small screen to silver screen. Prajin who had earlier served as an anchor in Sun TV has now started concentrating to work on movies.
Prajin, after completing his recent shoot in Dubai for the film “Manal Nagaram” reached Chennai and spoke to us.
You had moved from TV to Movie (small screen to silver screen).  Do you accept that it is easy to enter cinema industry from TV?

No, I would not accept it. Though Sharukkhan&Madhavan succeeded from TV industry to cinema, but all from TV were not able to enter cinema industry.  The reason was that there was a period where audiences were not able to accept TV personalities on films.  There was also a false version that a well know Television artiste would be bored to be seen on a silver screen.

Has Sivakarthikeyan’s entry into cinema industry changed the version you have mentioned earlier?

Now the trend has changed.  Now the concept is that an entry of a familiar face in the cinema industry would be fruitful.  I would consider Sivakarthikeyan’s entry as a good symptom.  Has your experience as a TV Video Jockey been helpful for your cinema career?

Obviously, it keeps helping me.  It is only from the TV industry, I have learnt about the lights, camera, standing position and facing the camera.  My experience in the TV industry gives me the basic knowledge and confidence about the lights and camera.

My experience as a Video Jockey has helped me to face my co-actors without hesitation and courage.  It is that experience which gave me courage that I can be able to meet anyone and speak to them. I am a person who is eager to learn everything and I am learning many things from cinema.

Can you say about the opportunities for you in the cinema industry?

My debut as an actor was in Malayalam.  It was a thriller movie where Prithivraj was the hero and I have played as second hero.  Next to that film was an another Malayalam film “Tournament” directed by Lal.  It is “TheekulikkumPachaimaram” that was my debut film in Tamil directed by Vinesh and Praveen.  “TheekulikkumPachaimaram” and “Tournament” both were of different category.  One was about a story based on a mortuary and the other one was related to sports.

I have recently completed “ManalNagaram” directed by actor Shankar.  This film has been totally filmed in Dubai.  My next film would be “PazhaiyaVannarappettai” and this gives me a different experience.
How was your Dubai experience in “Manal Nagaram”?

This film has been made based on a true story.  There are many Indians who go abroad in search of job and get caught into trouble unknowingly about those country’s law, rules and regulations.  This film is about the difficulties experienced by them to get relieved after being caught. Shooting took place for approximately 50 days in hot sun.  It is four times hotter than our worst summer and except two months it would be a server summer.

I have played the character of Mansoor in this film.  Total shooting happened in Dubai and since it was a necessity the whole film was shot in Dubai. Can you say something about “Pazhiya Vannarappettai”?

It is a story about North Chennai.  It’s a political thriller which happens within a single day.  The film has been directed by Mohan.

Whom would you wish to inspire?

After leaving the job as a Video Jockey, I had the experience of being neglected by many and faced many failures.
It was seven to eight years of struggle.  At that time doors were not open in the cinema industry.  I kept fighting against the struggle and I still struggle.

If we keep doing our work systematically, I am sure one day we would be in everyone’s attention.  We should never give up our involvement, search, efforts, hard work and confidence.  This I learnt from Vikram sir.  He always stay in my vision as a successor after many struggle.  I take him as a lesson.  I love Kamal sir.  He is legend and aI consider him as my God father.

Your wife is an actress and how much advantageous is she for you?

My wife Sandra had been the backbone for me to understand what cinema is.  It is more than 5 years we got married.  She is also a TV anchor and she conducts many shows.  She is currently playing a role in the movie “SivappuEnakkuPidikkum”.

 Is it a controversial film?

It is a false comment made by those who have not seen the film.  There is not even a small part of obscene, awkwardness or glamour in the film.  It is a film with a decent story line and I have the confidence that it is a nice film.

What is your ambition?

There is a good opening in Tamil cinema industry for good stories.  I wish to hand pick good stories and act in them.  I am clear and confident that it is the character we perform which takes us to the audience.
