innovation Emerges by Breaking Through Boundaries Launch Event Stills and Press Release
Chennai, December 16, 2013: ‘Innovation emerges not with the search of
ideas but by recognising boundaries. Realisation to create a breakthrough and
the need to move from ideation to breaking through mental boundaries is the
need of the hour.’
These and more such insights were revealed by former
city commissioner and Add. Director General of Police (Prisons) J.K. Tripathy on
Monday while unveiling a book titled “Orbit Shifting Innovation – The Dynamics
of Ideas That Create History”.
He was joined by Founder Chairman of CavinKare C.K.
Ranganathan, CEO of Equitas P.N. Vasudevan and CEO of Max Life Insurance Rajesh
Sud.
Tripathy, who is known for his proactive policing through
public cooperation, shared his experiences on transforming an entire city
police force and also the prison environment.
Known to have resolved serious law and order problems
in Trichy and Chennai, Tripathy had enlisted the support of citizens and hence
innovated a new style of ensuring that the law and order situation is stable.
Authored by Rajiv Narang and Devika Devaiah of Erehwon
Innovation Consulting, a world leading innovation consulting firm, the book
captures 250 “orbit-shifting” innovation challenges across industries, cultures
and countries. From Johnson & Johnson to Marico to Unilever to Mahindra
& Mahindra, the pioneering efforts of Erehwon Innovation Consulting provide
thought provoking insights and vignettes.
“This book addresses old questions in a new light. It
says that the real dynamics of executing an orbit-shifting innovation is not
mechanistic. But it has to bring alive the human endeavour intrinsic to
innovation,” Tripathy commented while speaking about the book.
The book breaks down the process and the mind-set of
creating an orbit-shift into the tiniest bits, so that each bit can be explored
with perfect clarity. The book brings alive the most extraordinary
life-changing ideas in different industries, countries and areas of life.
This book brings first hand insight into the dynamics
of making orbit-shifting innovation happen. However, it is not only
theoretical, but also based on insights drawn from 22 years of working and
research with organisations in making orbit-shifting innovation happen.
“We work with organisations, and we empower them to
break through the impossible to make it possible. This creates orbit-shifting
innovations and a transformative impact in the market,” said Rajiv Narang,
Founder, Chairman & Managing Director of Erehwon.
“A lot of organisations believe that the romance of
innovation is about coming up with a dozen of ideas. It is not about the
quantity of ideas. It is about coming up with those one or two or three
orbit-shifting ideas by breaking through inter-model boundaries,” Narang said
while speaking about the tone of the book.
Erehwon’s Director Devika Devaiah, on the other hand,
said orbit-shifting innovation is an area that has extreme or great need of an
innovator. “We believe that orbit-shifting innovation happens when an area that
needs transformation meets an innovator with the will and the desire to create,
and not follow, history and make magic happen,” she said.
She further added, “Most innovation journeys almost
always end with the emergence of a powerful new idea. The strategists in
organizations often believe they are the thinkers and that their role finishes
with the identification of the big idea. This book ruthlessly busts this myth.”
The book has received glowing testimonials from
industry captains and leaders including Neal Matheson, Chief Technology Officer
(Consumer Products), Johnson & Johnson, US, Harsh C Mariwala, CMD of
Marico, Anuroop (Tony) Singh, Vice Chairman of Max Group, Michiel Leijnse,
Global Brand Director, Water & Innovation, Personal Care Category,
Unilever, UK and the likes.
“‘Orbit-shifting Innovation’ is a fantastic journey.
It took us beyond the boundaries of the industry and turned into a goldmine of
refreshing insights and path-breaking ideas,” said Michiel Leijnse, Global
Brand Director, Water & Innovation, Personal Care Category, Unilever, UK.
“The insights contained in this book will enable
organisations to break the bonds of gravity and the mental shackles that keep
them from reaching the next orbit. Compulsory reading for businesses that
aspire to be innovative,” said a testimonial from Anand Mahindra, Chairman of
Mahindra Group.
