Odomos Initiates ‘Zero Tolerance
Against Mosquito’ Campaign
Spreads awareness on effective
prevention from mosquito-borne diseases
Moving forward on its mission to help the
state of Tamil Nadu fight mosquito-borne diseases more effectively, Odomos -- India 's most
preferred personal application mosquito repellant brand from the House of Dabur
-- today announced the launch of its mega initiative, Zero Tolerance Against
Mosquito. Under this initiative, Odomos – along with Health Care major
Fortis – will be visiting schools across Chennai, Coimbatore
and Madurai to
spread awareness about mosquito borne diseases and educating school kids about
effective prevention methods.
Odomos, through
this campaign, will be reaching out to over 1,30,000 kids across 190 schools in
three cities of Tamil Nadu – 90 schools in Chennai and 50 schools each in
Coimbatore and Madurai. “As a brand
we have been working towards helping people stay safe from mosquito borne
diseases through product innovations by extensive R&D over the years. As an
extension to that, we took up this social initiative to help build public
awareness. Under Odomos Zero Tolerance Against Mosquito campaign, we will be
spreading awareness about deadly mosquito-borne diseases and how children can
protect themselves from such diseases. We will be educating the children about
various methods to prevent mosquito breeding in their schools and homes and
thereby preventing themselves from falling prey to mosquito bites," Mr
Amit Garg, Brand Head – Odomos, Dabur India Ltd. said.
Contrary to
popular perception, diseases like Dengue and Malaria are spread by daytime
mosquitoes. Children, when they venture out to play in gardens or even while in
school, are at risk of being bitten by these mosquitoes. Even people in offices
are at risk of falling sick after being bitten by these mosquitoes. Odomos is
the only personal application product that offers users complete protection
from daytime mosquitoes that spread such life-threatening diseases. According
to Ministry of Health, India
recorded 50,000 dengue cases, including 242 deaths due to dengue, in the year
2012 alone. In the current year there have been 38,179 cases of dengue reported in the country with
109 cases of death till September 2013. According to National Vector Borne
Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) data, in the current year till the month of
September itself, there have been 4294 dengue cases have been reported in the
state of Tamil Nadu. The state had 12,826 reported dengue cases last year
including 66 deaths. While there have
been 9898 positive cases of Malaria reported in the state this year till
August, while last year total cases of malaria in the state was 18869.
Speaking on the
occasion Dr Jinadas , Senior Consultant- Internal Medicine,
Fortis Malar Hospital., Chennai, said, “Low platelet
count is a sign of dengue but symptoms such as dehydration,
breathlessness, severe pain in the abdomen and bleeding etc must not be
overlooked. Prevention is the key to avoid diseases like dengue and Malaria.
Spreading awareness around preventive measures so that people may safeguard
themselves from vector-borne diseases is the safest bet. Zero Tolerance
drive in schools is an initiative in the same direction and we are glad to have
helped in the dissemination of this cause".
Odomos offers 100% protection against mosquito bites. New advanced
Odomos range uses a formula which masks the distinctive body odour that human
skin emits. Therefore, the mosquito cannot detect the human being, making the
individual invisible to the mosquito. “Conventional mosquito repellants,
like liquid vapourisers, mats and coils, offer protection when one is in the
closed confines of a room, whereas the Odomos personal application range offers
protection not only inside the house but also when one is outdoors where the
chances of getting bitten by disease-causing mosquitoes is very high. It is
also certified to be safe for use on infants and children in a test conducted
by leading paediatricians,” said Dr S V Devasthale, Head of R&D
(Home Care), Dabur Research & Development Centre.
Schools would
also be invited to participate in a competition and information will be sought
from them on the various measures taken by schools to prevent mosquito breeding
in their premises. The shortlisted schools will them be judged by an
independent jury and the Top 5 Schools from across Tamil Nadu will be
felicitated.
