idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara Movie Review and Rating

Director Gokul, who debuted through an action thriller 'Rowthiram' has tried his hands on comedy with his second project 'Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara' starring two lead pairs Vijay Sethupathi-Nandita and Ashwin-Swathi.

Siddharth Vipin has scored the music, cinematography has been handled by Mahesh Muthuswamy and Leo John Paul has done the edits. VS Rajkumar has produced the film under Leo Visions banner while JSK Film Corp has taken care of the distribution duties.

Story : 

IAB narrates the lives of two different guys Vijay Sethupathi (as Sumar Moonji Kumar) and Ashwin Kakumanu (Bala) who belong to different class of society. Kumar is a fellow who lives in a housing board chasing his childhood love Kumudha, while Bala is a corporate guy. The two tales are pinned at one point through an incident and here the director delivers his message in a subtle manner.

Review :

Director Gokul, who has tried his hand on comedy, has succeeded well in doing so, as the film is hilarious right from the start to end. The dialogues, choice of characters and the screenplay are the major plus points which keeps the interest level on the rise.

Though we have already witnessed surplus amount of comedy films this year, IAB stands out from the pack with the detailing given for the character-comedy and in the making. The director has also delivered a much needed message for the youth.

Lyricist Madhan Karky who has extended his service as a dialogue writer for the film, is another guy responsible for the film's entertainment factor. The young poet who has impressed us with his literary skills through his songs, has showcased his other side in IAB, which is thirst for humor.

Director Gokul and Madhan Karky have made use of the 'Madras Bashai' in the best comical way possible and not to forget the artiste Vijay Sethupathi who has delivered it in style.

However, the director has slightly slipped in tailoring the sequences which helps the two stories head towards a single point. By the time we forget ourselves in laughter, the seriousness comes in as a surprise but doesn't create a great impact and gives a dragging feel.

First of all Vijay Sethupathi has to be applauded for mastering the local Tamil slang and what complements it is his body language and carefree attitude which he has maintained throughout. Like Soodhu Kavvum, Vijay Sethupathi utters a few English dialogues and the timing in which the dialogues have been placed, brings the roof down. To keep it simple, IAB has showcased Vijay Sethupathi as a complete comedian.

Though Ashwin's role is slightly less significant compared to Vijay Sethuapthji's role, the former has his own set of scenes where he draws laughter from the crowd. Supported by MS Bhaskar (who plays his boss), Ashwin has done well as an innocent guy who finds it hard to tackle his demanding boss and possessive girlfriend.

Pasupathi, Soori, Naan Kadavul Rajendran, MS Baskar and Robo Shankar are the others who chip in at regular intervals to entertain us. None of these characters seem unnecessary and for this the director has to be given the credit once again.

Swati and Nandita, the two young heroines of Kollywood who are naturally blessed with girl next door looks have played their part to perfection. Though these ladies have not been given more opportunity to showcase their talent, Swati and Nandita help in propelling the story to the end.

Siddharth Vipin, who has earlier composed for 'Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom' has done the same in IAB too. 'En Veetula' sung by Gaana Bala and 'Nee Enge Ponalum Prayer song' (sung by Naresh Iyer) are the foot-tapping tracks.

Verdict :  A laughter therapy with a subtle message
