Dr.Pooja Bagdi Agarwal Wins an Award at 2nd National Conference On Ambulatory Surgery
Dr. Pooja Bagdi Agrawal, Junior
Consultant Anaesthesiologist completed M.B.B.S. from Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital,
Chidambaram in 2000. She completed Diploma in Anaesthesia (D.A.) from Sri
Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute in 2005 and then Diplomate
of National Board (DNB) Anaesthesia from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai in 2009.
She is a member of the Indian Medical Association, Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists,
Indian Association of Day Surgery, Indian Society of Ambulatory Surgery and
International Association of Ambulatory Surgery.
She worked in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital
and Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai before relocating back to Chennai and joining
the Apollo Day Surgery, Chennai in 2011.
Dr Pooja is a member of the team of
anaesthetists who work closely with the surgeons of Apollo hospitals across specialities. Her role includes
preoperative evaluation, consultation with the surgical team, creating a plan
for the anaesthesia tailored to each individual patient, airway management,
intra-operative life support and provision of pain control, intra-operative
stabilisation and proper post-operative management of patients.
Her involvement with the patients all through their stay in the hospital
makes her a crucial part of Apollo Day Surgery and she is remembered a lot by
all the patients.

Care Chennai recently bagged an award for presenting ‘The Best Paper’ at 2nd
National Conference on Ambulatory Surgery in Bangalore. Her paper was voted the best among 66 medical
papers presented at the 2 day conference.
The award winning paper was presented on the topic -‘Ultrasound Guided TAP (transversus
abdominis plane) Block - a boon in Ambulatory Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. The
paper was co-authored by Dr. Malleswara Rao (Senior Consultant – Anesthesiologist), Dr. Patta Radhakrishna
(Senior Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist), Apollo Day Surgery Care,
Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.
The
paper highlighted the effectiveness of TAP Block (a type of regional
anesthesia) that is given with the aid of an ultrasound in providing post
operative pain relief in ambulatory laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This
procedure has proven to be effective and patients can be discharged 6 hours
post the surgery. This TAP Block has made Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy a hassle
free, short stay operation.
The conference was attended by medical professionals from
various medical verticals, doctors and nurses. Around 66 papers were presented
at the conference out of which 7 were presented in the award category. These 7
papers were judged by a team of 4 doctors of high repute from India and abroad
followed by an audience poll wherein Dr. Pooja’s paper secured 80 percent votes
in the excellent category.
