‘6’ (alias 6 Candles) starring Shaam and
Poonam Kaur in the lead, is directed by VZ Durai, who has earlier directed hits
like Mugavari, Thotti Jaya and Nepali. Srikanth Deva has composed the film’s
music.
Story :
Ram (Shaam) and Lizzy (Poonam Kaur) are
happily married couple for whom the only interest in their life is their
6-year-old son. On a pleasant evening the couple head out to beach for
celebrating their son’s 6th birthday. Situation changes drastically when their
child gets lost in the crowd. Failing to find their kid with the help of the
police department, Ram gets himself into action. What happens next takes us on
a roller-coaster ride of twists and turns.
Review :
Director VZ Durai’s ‘6’ is something which
gives us a sneak peek of what happens inside the network of child trafficking
and throws light on how dangerous it could be for the child who gets kidnapped.
The film showcases the links between the kidnappers functioning in various
parts of the country and how they keep moving from place to place in order to
avoid getting caught.
The director's efforts for making the film
look realistic is the first thing which impresses us. With the making style, it
is very much evident that the director and his team have done a lot of research
and ground work in order to get a perfect idea on the network of child
trafficking.
The sets, characters handpicked by the
director, makeup and costumes and the subtle expressions of the characters
involved have played a major role in presenting a well tailored film on the
whole.
Once again the director takes the credit
for the racy screenplay. Apart from the tension created by the suspense and
visually well coordinated action sequences, the scenes where Shaam reacts as a
caring parent who breaks down emotionally for his missing child, makes the film
engaging to watch.
Shaam's look gets more rugged as the chase
keeps him traveling from once place to another and here the makeup artiste M.N
Balaji has made his key contribution in getting a convincing worn-out look for
the actor.
The makeup man and costumer Nanaji together
have provided a brilliant off-screen effort to provide the much talked and
hyped beggar look for Shaam. We haven't witnessed something of this sort before
and for this special reason, their efforts need an appreciation.
Shaam has chosen a perfect script for his
comeback and his pains taking efforts in getting the eye sack for the beggar
look, is something which draws tears from our eyes. Undoubtedly, 6 is the film
which has made the full use of actor Shaam's dedication towards acting and his
talent. The actor's performance as a loving father and as a angry young man
trying to save is lost kid is a treat to watch.
Next to the makeup, it is the stunt
coordinator Super Subbarayan's efforts which catches our eyes. The fight
sequences, especially the one which happens at a butchery house speaks volumes
for the stunt master's efforts.
The chase and fight sequences remind us of
Krishnasamy, the man employed for handling the camera. The story which toggles
between flashback and present scenario repeatedly has been neatly edited by
debutant N Arunkumar.
Srikanth Deva's music has contributed
nothing in the right sense for the film. Both his background scores and tunes
for the songs fails to create an impact. The only track which slightly manages
to impress us is 'Thedugindrathey' sung by Haricharan.
Verdict : A perfect comeback for VZ Durai
and Shaam. A worthy watch ( 6 Candles Melting Hearts )
