Udhayam NH4 starring Siddharth and Ashrita Shetty is directed by debutant Manimaran, an apprentice from Vetrimaaran's school. Vetrimaaran has penned the film's dialogues and story. Cinematography is by Velraj and Kishore Te has done the editing.

Right from the very beginning, the film starts traveling in a brisk pace. A group of friends plan to kidnap a girl named Rithika (Ashrita Shetty) from a college premises. Following the kidnap, Rithika's father tries to save her with the help of Manoj Menon (Kay Kay Menon).

Manoj Menon, who is an aggressive cop starts interrogating a suspect where the story begins to unfold. The battle between the group of friends and Manoj Menon forms the rest of the story.

Review :
A young couple getting united with the help of their friends is not a new thing to Tamil audience, but the way in which it has been threaded gives the film, its uniqueness. The newly touched area in the film is the life of Chennai guys, who study in Bangalore with the sole purpose of enjoying the clubbing and dating culture which is widely prevailing among the college students.

Director Manimaran has clearly delivered a few warning messages for the young generation about the hazards of smoking and drinking and his responsibility is worth a salute.

Vetrimaran is known for maintaining the perfect nativity in the language which the characters speak and his assistant has not missed out on it. The Banglorean style of speaking Tamil is a proof for the ground work done by the director to study that particular slang of Tamil. Moreover, Siddharth and his friends who hail from local settlements in Chennai, maintain a local Tamil slang throughout the film.

What the director has scored by maintaining the language authenticity, has been let down in lip synchronization. This happens in many important portions which dilutes the real concentration of the scene.

Manimaran also needs a special mention for his casting. The director's handpicked characters, be it Siddharth's friends from Chennai or the Bangalore guys, are absolutely perfect.

Performances :
Kay Kay Menon looks like a terrorizing villain though he dons a role of a cop. He has maintained the seriousness in his character throughout the film and his voice is a major plus for the success of his character.

Siddharth is seen as a calm and composed guy who makes clear decisions under confusing circumstances. The film has also proved that Siddharth is capable of doing some serious roles (though not a typical action hero) other than just romancing heroines.

Ashrita Shetty is definitely a new find to cinema. The young lady has played her part well as a girl who first gets confused in choosing her love and later gets clear with her intent.

Te Kishore's editing has helped in the film's neat presentation and also keeps the crispness alive. Music by GV Prakash Kumar is not catchy expect the song 'Yaaro Ivan'.

The director has tried to insert a bit of humor through the role of a control room guy, who over cook's his work and Siddharth's friends, but unfortunately both the attempts have failed.

Verdict : Udhayam NH4 is an Perfect Way
Rating   : 4 / 5
