Settai, being an official remake of
Bollywood film 'Delhi Belly'
'Settai' is the official remake of
Bollywood film 'Delhi Belly' and happens to be the second remake project for
director R Kannan after 'Kanden Kadhalai' (Jab We Met).
Key ingredients of the film are Arya,
Santhanam, Hansika, Anjali, Premji and Nassar. While Arsha Bhatia's original
story has been retained, the screenplay for Tamil version has been penned by G.
Dhananjayan, John Mahendran and R. Kannan
Story:
Jayaganthan a.k.a JK Boss (Arya), Nagaraj
a.k.a Nadupakka Nakki (Santhanam) and
Cheenu (Premji) are colleagues who work for a newspaper daily and share the
same room for living. The twist in the tale begins when Madhu is asked by her
friend to receive a parcel on her behalf and deliver it to Nassar, who is a
gangster.
Madhu appoints her boyfriend Jayaganthan
for this job and he carelessly misplaces it. Then the parcel travels to Premji and
in the meanwhile, Nassar comes in search of the lost parcel. He kidnaps Madhu and
demands the parcel to be returned to him. Whether JK and team save Hansika and how
they get united forms the rest of the story.
Review:
The first and foremost thing to be
mentioned is Santhanam’s comedy. His comedy acts as the biggest plus to the
story’s screenplay and as usual his one-liners and witty comments tickle our
funny bone every now and then. The rest of the cast including Arya, Premji and
Nassar have perfectly fit in their roles.
Anjali and Hansika Motwani serve as glamour
girls and have not done anything else worth mentioning. Deepa Venkat’s voice
for Anjali has suited well while Hansika Motwani has once again failed to work
on her lip sync.
S Thaman’s songs have fallen flat except
the song sung by Ganaa Bala, who is the latest hit machine.
Apart from the addition of two more songs
(duets for Arya with Anjali and Hansika) there isn’t much change we see in the
screenplay comparing to the original version.
A remake film always demands necessary
changes to be made in order to provide a fresh feel rather than giving a feel
of a rip from the original version, but Settai lacks this crucial factor to the
core.
Verdict : Settai showcases the naughtiness
of a group of careless youngsters and is fun to watch in bits and pieces.
