'Vathikuchi' is an commercial entertainer directed by debutant Kinslin with new face Dileepan and Anjali essaying the lead roles. Produced by AR Murugadoss's Fox Star Studios, the film has music by Gibran, editing by Praveen.K.L and N.B.Srikanth, and cinematography by Gurudev.

Plot:

Sakthi is a share auto driver who goes out of his way to help others. With such an intent, a common man is sure to run himself into unwanted trouble and that is what the hero in this story fetches for himself.

Cutting into his personal life, Sakthi is in love with a girl Leena, who is a regular passenger in his share auto. Leena, is a kind of a character who enjoys attention, but never nods head for love nor gets indulged with people so easily.

While Sakthi tries to impress Leena, his life takes a tumble at the other end, which demands him to run for is life and fight three baddies in the society. The single-handed fight between Sakthi and the villains and how he manages to win them, forms the climax.

Highlights :

We must say that debutant director Kinslin has made a banging entry with a clean commercial entertainer. The film has its part of commercial cliches, but what makes it different and interesting is the screenplay of Kinslin.

Unlike other commercial movies which slowly shift into serious mode during the end of the first half, 'Vatchikuchi' straight away begins with a big puzzle, which gives a serious and engaging start to the film.

Though the film has followed the regular formula of a commercial entertainer in certain places, the surprise packages loaded by Kinslin gives the film its unique flavoring.

Dileepan, with his average looks, has perfectly fit into the shoes of a share auto driver. Anjali has excelled in playing a rural girl who tries to be more westernized through clothing and styling.

Sampath as a local goon, Jayaprakash as a diamond merchant, who evades tax payment and Jegan as a LIC agent, who takes wrong route to earn money, have done justice to their roles at ease.

Stunt choreographer Rajesh has come out with some interesting fight scenes which is complemented well by Gurudev's cinematography.

Gibran's background score is sensible and song 'Kuru Kuru' is the best among the lot.

Minuses :

Despite of the fact that the film bags some watch-worthy stunt scenes, violence, at certain places, seem unwanted.

The film's length is another factor which hinders its crispness. Since, the flashback portions of the three villains occupy the first half, time taken to unveil the knots, in the second half has been extended.

The love sequence consumes a little bit of the crisp story telling time which acts as a speed break of sort. Anjali's performance is good, but the actress is running the risk of being typecast as a semi-rural girl. Since we have seen Anjali in such roles earlier, her character doesn’t have anything new to offer.

Verdict : Vathikuchi a Real Fire
Rating   : 4 / 5
