Director Bala’s home production venture, Paradesi has a fresh casting which includes Atharva, Vedika and Dhansika in key roles. Udhay Karthik and Ritwika have also played prominent roles.

Plot: 

The film narrates the pitiful plight of workers in the tea plantations in the pre-independence era. Rasa is a crier in the village of Saaloor where Vedika is seen as his cousin, who makes fun of his innocence. Love flourishes in between them and this issue comes to the notice of Vedika’s mother. Vedika’s mother separates the two and humiliates Rasa of his job after which Rasa sets off to find a job in a nearby village. There he happens to see Karungani, who offers his villagers a secured job in tea plantation. From here the tale takes an unexpected twist and the rest is narrated in Bala’s style.

Highlights: 

The director has scored well in the characterization. All the artistes have perfectly fit to their roles and with the efforts of costume designer Poornima Ramasamy the characters look very authentic.

Performers: 

Atharva is the main focus among the characters and obviously he walks off with the performer award. His expressions as an innocent young man and while emoting the fear, are outstanding. Vedika scores well as a fun loving character in the first half.

GV Prakash Kumar’s background scores is a biggest boost to this film which helps in maintaining the sad feel at necessary portions. Sengaade and Avvataha Paiyya are the best picks in the album.

Cinematographer Cheziyan’s lens work has a major contribution in bringing the late 1930’s feel. Sepia tone has been maintained throughout the film and Cheziyan has scored well in long shots which captures the tea plantations n the whole.

Art director CS Balachander has did immense field work in bring out the village set up which is very much evident from what we see.

Verdict : Paradesi - Bala's New Focus With Success
