Mathil Mel Poonai Movie Review and Rating
Director Bharani Jayapal’s Mathil Mel
Poonai has Vijay Vasanth playing a sole male lead role for the first time and
Vibha as the female lead. Ganesh Raghavendra has scored the film’s music.
Storyline:
Mathil Mel Poonai is a tale of two stories
which head forward in their own way and converge at a point of time. The two
stories are that of a gang of school kids and a love story between a driving school
instructor (Vijay Vasanth) and his student Vibha. Somehow the two tales converge
at a point and after that we head towards the climax.
Pluses:
Director Bharani Jayapal’s efforts of
portraying the after effects of kids, not being raised properly by teachers and
parents is clear and appreciable.
The child artist, who has played the
character Johnny, is a promising talent to look out for in the future. The kid
has showcased himself as a maniac with his raw expressions and body language.
Actress Vibha is looking good and fits the
bill perfectly as a girl from upper-middle class, who falls in love with a
lower-middle class guy.
Miracle Michael, the stunt coordinator of
the film needs applause for his brilliant work in the fight sequence where an
aghori baba fights for a girl.
Minuses:
1. Cliches:
First thing to mentioned is the list of clichés
which we happen to see in the first half. In the school gang there is a fat guy
who gets mocked for his appearance and farting. And the romance between Vijay
Vasanth and Vibha is not new either.
The blame for innocent children turning into
maniacs or psychopaths, is as usual, put on the improper upbringing of parents
and teachers. These types of years-old clichés spoil the film.
2. Too
much of violence and bloodshed.
3. The reasons with which the director
justifies a kids transformation from being normal to a maniac is totally
unacceptable.
