Puthagam marks the directional debut of TV
fame Vijay Aadhiraj and is also the launch pad for Arya's brother Sathya in
Kollywood as hero. Santhana Bharathi's son Sanjay Bharathi, Vignesh, Jagapathi
Babu Uma Padmanabhan, Fathima Babu, Thalaivasal Vijay and Manobala are part of
the support cast, while Rakul Preet Singh plays the leading lady's role.
Plot :
Puthagam is about a story of three
youngsters who come to Chennai for better earning and living. The three face
tough times in the city and surprisingly find an unimaginable amount of money.
This money actually belongs to a politician who has earned it through illegal
ways. The change of phase in the three youngsters' life and the troubles they
face after getting the money, forms the story of Puthagam.
Highlights :
Debutant director Vijay Aadhiraj must be
appreciated for his bold attempt of making a film in comic thriller genre which
we have rarely heard of in Tamil cinema. The film's story is unique and hence
this fact needs a special mention as fresh stories have also become scarce in
Tamil cinema.
The male leads Sathya, Sanjay Bharathi and
Vignesh have delivered a notable performance, but its is veteran Telugu star
Jagapathi Babu and heroine Rakul Preet Singh, who stand apart in terms of
performance.
Tunes composed by James Vasanthan are good
to hear and the background score keeps you in touch with what is happening in
the film.
Cinematographer Laxman Kumar has done a
decent job is capturing the busy city life, lighter moments involves in a
youngster's life and the thrilling scenes in a realistic way.
Minus :
With an interesting plot and decent
newcomers onboard, Puthagam fails to impress the audience with its length. A
few trims in the second half could have made the film more crispy and
maintained the thrill throughout.
Verdict : Puthagam With Many Pages
Rating : 3 / 5
