10th CIFF Press Meet Stills


 







The 10th Chennai International Film Festival is organized by Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation with the support of Government of Tamil Nadu and Film Fraternity from 13th to 20th December 2012.

ABOUT INDO CINE APPRECIATION FOUNDATION:

Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation known as ICAF,  a registered Film Society, has been working for promotion of good cinema in Chennai with about 500 members including Film Directors, cinematographers, cine technicians and film lovers.   ICAF started organizing – CHENNAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (CIFF) - from the year 2003 and each edition of CIFF has seen a gradual growth in terms of attendance as well as popularity.

FESTIVAL VENUES:

The 10th Edition of CIFF will screen more than 160 films from more than 57 countries in Woodlands, Woodlands Symphony, Inox ( 2 screens), Sathyam ( 2 Screens), Rani Seethai Hall and Casino.

Support from the Government of Tamil Nadu

Like last year CIFF will be receiving the support of Government of Tamil Nadu including Financial Support.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE FESTIVAL:

(a)          WORLD CINEMA SECTION

The Best of World cinema made in the past 12 months will be screened during the festival which includes award winning and acclaimed films… like

·         AMOUR by Michael Haneka  : won 2012 Cannes Palme D’Or (Golden Palme)  award plus screened in more than 50 festivals within a span of 6 months
·         2012 Venice Golden Lion award winner PIETA (South Korea)  by Kim ki-duk ( it won total four awards in Venice)
·         The latest creation of  Moshen Makhmalbaf : The film  THE GARDENER (Iran)
·         LE GRAND SOIR  (The Grand Evening) (France) by Gustave de Kervern  which won Special Jury award in 2012 Cannes
·         SISTER  (France / Switzerland ) by Ursula Meier : Won the 2012 Berlin Silver Bear Award
·         Film WAR WITCH (Canada)  by Kim Nguyen  which got Rachel Mwanza the best actress award in Berlin 2012
·         Jacques Audiard’s  latest film RUST & BONE  (France | Belgium) which won the best film award in London IFF 2012
·         PORFIRIO (Colombia | Argentina | Uruguay | Spain)  by Alejandro Landes  which won the Golden peacock during IFFI 2011
·         MELANCHOLIA (Denmark) by Los von Trier
·         Oscar nominated  Bangladeshi Film  PLEASURE BOY KOMALA by Humayun Ahmed
·         Oscar award winner from Japan film  DEPARTURE by Yojiro Takita
·         Latest film by Abbas Kiarostomi : film SOMEONE IN LOVE (Japan)
·         ANGEL’S SHARE (UK) by Ken Loach
·         Debut film of Amir Manor:  EPILOGUE (Israel) 

(b)          COUNTRY FOCUS:

This is year it was decided to have country focus from four nations and CIFF is happy to present films from

·         HUNGARY
·         TURKEY

(c)           RETROSPECTIVE OF CLAUDE CHABROL (FRANCE):

The festival will screen five films of Claude Chabrol

·         The Flower of Evil

(d)          A TWO FILMS TRIBUTE:  to Michael Cacoyannis (Greece) who passed away during 2011 at the age of 89

(e)          INDIAN PANORAMA (includes)

·         KURMAVATARA (Kannada) by Girish Kasavaravalli
·         BAANDHON (Assam) by Johnu Barua
·         BHOOMIYUDE AVAKASHIKAL (Malayalam) by T.V. Chandran

(f)           TAMIL FILM COMPETITION

12 films selected by the Committee (films which were censored   between 16th October 2011 and 15th October 2012) – a separate list is circulated

(g)          100 YEARS OF INDIAN CINEMA
                Screening of Indian Classics like
                1. Chandralekha – Tamil
                2. Mega Sandhesham – Telugu
                3. Pather panchali – Bengal
                4. Guide – Hindi
                5. Dweepa – Kannada
                6. Vasthuhara or Thampu – Malayalam

(h)          COMPETITION FOR DOCUMENTARY FILMS (2 minutes duration)
                Documentary Films Competition to encourage young talents in association with THE HINDU

(i)           ONE DAY SEMINAR
                To be attended by eminent film critics and personalities to have interaction with the Tamil
                Film Producers / Directors on 21st December 2012, organised by THE HINDU

(j)           DELEGATES FROM ABROAD (11 Directors, 2 Festival Directors, 1 Producer & 1 Actress)
               
More than 15 foreign representatives connected with the festival films are likely to attended

(k)          DELEGATES FROM INDIA (10 Directors & 5 Officials from Foreign Missions Ambassadors plus more than
                three Intl Film Festival directors are likely attend the festival)

Opening and Closing Functions highlights:

The Opening Function on 13th December will start with the performance by the students from the Music School of A R Rahman and the Closing Award Function will witness the presence of noted Actor Amitabh Bachchan
