English Vinglish Movie Review and Ratiing

English Vinglish Movie Review
Gauri Shinde's directional debut 'English Vinglish' which marks the comeback of Sridevi is a feel good drama which doesn't bore even a single bit. The film has Sridevi as Sashi, who is a mother of two children, Adil Hussain as Satish, her husband, Priya Anand as Radha (Sashi's niece),  and a few foreign actors as the support cast.

Storyline :
Sashi is a perfect homemaker who gives her 100 percent for her family. Sashi excels in all the areas where a perfect homemaker scores, but lacks English knowledge. She gets often mocked by her daughter and husband for this. Sashi's sister (played by Sujata Kumar) invites her to the United States for her daughter's wedding.

Sashi leaves to the United States early to help out her sister in wedding preparations. Once Sashi moves into a coffee shop where she struggles to communicate with the vendor at the coffee shop. Feeling humiliated Sashi decides to learn English in a private tuition centre. Sashi does it without the knowledge of her sister and family, but gets help from her niece Radha.

Sashi's English classes gets disturbed and faces other problems her after family's arrival to USA. How Sashi completes her spoken English course and how she makes her family realize that she is capable of speaking English forms the rest of the story.

Highlights :
The first and foremost thing which impresses the audience is Amit Trivedi's background score. The composer has given a simple yet impressive background score which is often being used in many parts of the film. A typical Indian wedding song, an enthusiastic development song for Sridevi which are complemented by Gauri Shinde's excellent picturization, stays in our hearts.

The director :

Gauri Shinde has taken a thin line of story and has elaborated neatly in an interesting manner with her sensible screenplay. The director's screenplay needs a standing ovation as it is the key for a lengthy drama film like English Vinglish to stay interesting throughout.

Gauri's casting is excellent as all the characters have perfectly played their part. Right from Sridevi's family members, her niece Priya Anand, her elder sister and mainly the characters we meet in the tuition centre.

Laxman Utekar has shown the locations of Manhattan city and Mumbai streets in the best possible way. The man behind the lens has worked well for the songs too, as they have come out well. Hemanti Sarkar's editing blends well with the screenplay and stands out in the songs.

Verdict : An interesting learning curve, worth watching
