Madhubaanakadai Movie Review and Rating

There is nothing to be mentioned as story, not for the fact that director Kamalakannan has publicized it in such a way, but the real truth is also the same. Rather the story described as a compilation of the happenings in a TASMAC bar.

The film moves around (only around) a TASMAC bar located in Perundurai in Erode district. The employees of the bar, the bar owner and his daughter, sewage cleaners, beggars, Ramu the guy who sings for liquor, politicians, regular bar visitors and a few others are the few among the characters you'll happen to see.

The film starts off with a day's end where the addicted alcoholics barge in to get some liquor sold after the working hours. Director has really not cared about the story of the film which adds to the film's authenticity. This hasn't worked out really well for the director as we realize that the story some where when we try to concentrate on particular happening that we recently watched.

Cinematography needs a good appreciation, especially the dull lighting in the night has blended well with the set properties to give a good TASMAC feel. The director who has tried to deliver romance, love and social awareness through has quite succeed, we must say. The punch dialogues and one liners spoken by drunkards are very regular, but those spoken by the beggars and sewage cleaners makes us think of the imbalance in the society.

Though the line of not having a definite story has been deployed by the director, he has tried to give a package of romance, comedy, friendship, love and other elements, which adds commercialism to this raw film.

On the whole, Madhubaanakadai is an experimental liquor blended by director Kamalakannan which makes the regular drinkers talk for a while, and gives the abstainers a sneak peek of what happens in such a place.
