Idhayam Thiraiarangam story :

Kumar who hails from a lower middle class family works in a auto garage where he is accompnied by his friend Birbal (played bu Kaadhal Sugumar). His main ambition is to build a own house for his family. On the other side Mahalakshmi (played by Swetha) is the only daughter for her mother and is considered as the lucky charm of her family. Mahalakshmi's mother is obsessed with astrological myths and strictly follows her family's astrologer’s advice.

Kumar happens to meet Mahalakshmi in a bank where he borrows a pen for filling a cash withdrawal form. Kumar leaves the bank without returning the pen to her which is made of pure gold and leaves with his friend Birbal. Mahalakshmi chases him to get her pen back and in the due course, gets her bike towed up by traffic police.

Kumar returns Mahalakshmi's pen back to her and pays the fine at the police station by selling his gold ring. In the meanwhile a local rowdy Karna barges into the garage and tries to acquire on of the cars. Kumar beats up Karna's men and gets control over the situation.

The twist in the tale begins when the garage owner reveals that Mahalashmi is his own daughter and how he happened to loose his child. The rest of the story ends with Kumar's struggle over uniting Mahalakshmi with her father and marrying her.

Pluses and Minuses :

Director Ramki Ramakrishnan's screenplay is not that interesting especially in the first half. The story gets a grip in the later part of the second half as the suspense gets revealed.

Comedy track by Sugumar could have been more interesting. Sugumar, who is capable of doing better comic role has not been used to the fullest.

Music scored by Maria Manogar fails to please our ears.

On the whole, Idhayam Thiraiarangam is a mere attempt made by the director which has got not special ingredient in it.

Rating : 2 / 5
