Urumi Tamil Movie Review and Rating Urumi Tamil Version Review

Urumi is about two warriors Kelu and Vavvalu who having a burning rage to kill the Portugese sailor-viceroy Vasco da Gama. Writer Shankar Ramakrishnan has threaded a small story to toggle the movie which starts off in the present. Prithiviraj is given a lucrative deal by an NRI to sell his ancestral property and Arya chips in to narrate the history of Prithviraj and the significance behind his property he holds.

The movie unwinds with the scenes of 15th century where Prithviraj (Kelu) is the son of Arya, who is the leader of the local gang. Right from childhood Kelu is raised as a hardcore warrior by his father. In a clash to kill the Portugese invaders Kelu loses his father which sets a vengeance to kill Vasco Da Gama.

After his father's death Kelu gets a grip in his life through the friendship of Vavvalu (Prabu Deva) and they both grow up as tough warriors. Nithya Menon who is gets into the story of as a princess being saved by Kelu and Vavvalu had played her part perfectly.

Nithya Menon's father, the King orders these two warriors (Kelu and Vavvalu) to capture Vasco da Gama's son during which the warrior duo sees Ayesha (Genelia) a rebel with the same destiny as theirs.

Shankar Ramakrishnan has inserted another twist in the tale by showing the politics arising in the Kingdom. Banu, the price of the kingdom (Nithya Menon's brother) dances to the tunes of Chinna Sena (a transgender), the chief adviser of the kingdom and kills his father for occupying the throne.

Heartbroken by her brother's act, Nithya Menon leaves the kingdom and seeks refuge from Kelu and Vavvalu. What is left behind is the hardships faced by the warrior duo Kelu and Vavvalu to complete their task of killing Vaso da Gama which forms the thrilling climax with some hardcore action.

Highlights :

Prithviraj's efforts needs a special mention as the Mollywood star with his added value to the role. Prithviraj has taken immense efforts in presenting him as a tough warrior with a well worked out body, majestic appearance and good acting performance as well.

Santosh Sivan's cinematography is one of the huge plus points for the film. The lighting used in the night sequences and scenes shot in foggy climate are a treat to watch.

Stunt director Anal Arasu has done a fabulous job in choreographing the action sequences. Especially the sword fights and traditional martial arts have been handled well. Sreekar Prasad's editing work adds more clarity to the story which holds a lot of twists and turns.

Deepak Dev's music is quite engaging and Santosh Sivan's cinematography complements it well. Though doing a subtle character compared to Genelia Nithya Menon outsmarts the latter with her realistic acting.
